The Driving Creek Railway on the Coromandel is potter Barry Brickell's way of combining art with engineering and conservation.
The one-hour train ride on New Zealand's only narrow-gauge mountain railway climbs through idyllic native bush above Brickell's working potteries and brickworks.
The hilly landscape includes kauri forest replanting and spectacular views.
Craft, books and native plants are also for sale, and there are restful picnic areas.
The train rides depart daily at 10 am and 2 pm, noon and 4 pm in summer.
