Akaroa celebrates French heritage

Akaroa will celebrate its French history with a weekend of celebrations beginning on Bastille Day, Saturday, July 14.

Entertainment includes a variety show in Gaiety Hall from 2 pm to 5 pm and a fireworks display at 7 pm near the main wharf. And local identities have volunteered to be clapped in the stocks while punters throw wet sponges - for a price.

On Sunday, July 15, the Ronnie Scott Tribute Band will perform.
