If the prospect of aching muscles after an extreme adventure does not faze you, the Active Series of safaris in Africa would make the perfect holiday.
Luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent says it can offer the exhilaration of adventure travel, but without the downside of roughing it which often goes hand-in-hand with high-adventure travels.
The company's 2001 brochure, Africa 2001, includes the Active Series, giving travellers the opportunity to ride rapids, scale mountains and track down wildlife, then ease their aching bodies in a hot bath in luxury accommodation.
Tours offered include Kenya, Tanzania and through the Zambezi, the latter with accommodation in safari-style, walk-in tents which are modernised with running hot water.
