African drums call visitors to Taupo

Limbo into next year amid traditional African drumbeats, and when you finally head for bed, do it in the comfort of a train compartment.

Two years old last weekend, the hotel follows an African theme and the elegant days of rail travel. A four-night New Year package is now on offer.

Choose four nights between December 27 and January 4 to celebrate with the African dance group, Jambo Mambo, watch them eat fire, and perform traditional warrior dances.

Priced at $621 for two people, the package includes breakfasts, a twilight superjet boat trip on Lake Taupo and dinner on one night.
