If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?
Way up north past Coopers Bay. I've been going there since I was a kid. I love it so much. It's a little slice of paradise, where I can just do nothing and go fishing.
What's your dream destination?
Somewhere warm, with a pool or some body of water close by, with the faint tinkle of cocktails being made in the distance.
What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?
Arriving in New Delhi with no map in the late-90s (no mobile phone) at 3am having no idea where my hostel was, while arrogantly assuming everyone would speak English.
What will you always have in your hand luggage?
Sleeping pills for the long haul, ear plugs, and my camera.
What's the best travel tip you've ever been given?
Don't eat the bhuja mix.
What was the most memorable meal you've had while travelling?
I think it was while I was in Kathmandu. We stayed in Phaplu and had traditional meals made for us. It was like nothing I'd ever had before.
What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip?
Probably the few extra pounds around my waist when I got back from New Orleans.
Favourite airport to land at?
Auckland, because there's nothing quite like coming home.
What's the next trip you've got planned?
I haven't spent a lot of time at home since January, so for me it's going to be a house holiday. I've got a photography exhibition planned for early next year and have to get working on it ...
