After highway upgrades in Victoria, Australia, visitors can enjoy a 305km tourist-friendly route known as the Great Alpine Road.
The highway traverses the high country and provides easy access to otherwise out-of-the-way locations such as Mt Buffalo, Bright, Falls Creek, Mt Beauty and Bogong Village.
A booklet called Explore the Australian Alps, available in Victoria, provides 178 pages of information on sites and tips on driving in alpine regions.
