In the hands of the player named Oceania’s Footballer of the Century, Wynton Rufer, the FIFA U-20 World Cup Winner’s Trophy arrived at the sacred Waitangi Treaty grounds via waka moving across the bay at dawn. This moment marks the beginning of the FIFA U-20 World Cup trophy tour across the country, lasting 25 days and visiting 60 locations.

Wynne Gray talks to All Black great Stu Wilson, he ended his All Black career as captain on the '83 tour when the side drew with Scotland and lost to England. He reckons Murray Mexted was supposed to be skipper but passed on that honour. The next year Wilson and his mate Bernie Fraser put out a book and in taking the proceeds, were banned from rugby for seven years. Eventually they got an official IRB pardon before four years later the same group decided the game would go professional.

Boxing: Heavyweight Parker wins

It took longer than many predicted but Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker has defeated Brazilian Marcelo Luiz Nascimento with a seventh-round TKO win in Oberhausen. A flurry of blows in the seventh saw referee Brad Vocale stop the fight, although Nascimento protested the decision. Parker was the dominant figure throughout the bout and won the interim WBA PABA heavyweight championship for his efforts.
