A private investigator for the McCann family has gone on the run.

The coroner examining how west Auckland toddler Aisling Symes died will have the benefit of a report into the stormwater drain in which her body was found.

John Meldrum was last seen in the early hours of Sunday at his west Auckland home and has not touched his bank accounts.
