Up to 10 people are dead with many injured after an horrific fire ripped through a west Sydney nursing home this morning. NSW's top firefighter called it "a tragic scene", adding that many of the elderly people could not get "out of harms way".

According to Christchurch Police, murder victim Jade Bayliss was "subject to an assault" before the fatal fire. Police are still working to determine whether the fire played a part in her death.
