A man who tried to revive a toddler drowned in a rubbish bin full of rainwater says he'll "live with it for the rest of my life". The toddler drowned while his mother was in the toilet.

The parents of two-year-old Aisling Symes hugged and exclaimed "it's over" after coroner Garry Evans today completed the inquest into her death.

A post-mortem is likely to be carried out tomorrow on a decomposed body found on a west Auckland beach, police said. The identity of the body, found at South Head on Friday, had not yet been confirmed.
