Last Sunday the Tūrangi Boar's Nest Hunting and Fishing Club held a junior members' Big Three Competition.
The idea was to help promote the club and bring the junior membership numbers up by hosting something for all the family to take part in.
There were 25 teams of three junior or intermediate members, from the youngest being just a few weeks old to the oldest at 15 years, with team names like Uncle's Little Poachers, Lil Divas and RAT Bags. There were team uniforms and all arrived with huge smiles on the day.
A total of 75 kids with the help of mums, dads, koros, nannies, aunties, uncles and cousins had to catch a goat, a fish and a critter and bring them to the weigh-in by 3pm Sunday. There was banter and laughs by all leading up to the weigh-in and lots of whānau time spent together, which for many is what made the event so special.
All 75 entrants received a goodie bag and certificate of participation at prize giving which contained a hand line sponsored by Tūrangi Bluelight, a drink, chippies and lollies, before the main prize winners were announced.
