Well what a tough season it has been for the last five months.

Along with the strain of a low forecast milk price we have had one of the most difficult springs, for the last 20 years, according to some. It has been both physically and mentally exhausting.

Having a difficult season when payout is good is a totally different scenario to doing it tough when forecast payout is low.

This makes it more important to make sure we take a sufficient break to rest not only the body, but also the mind.

Refreshing ourselves is key to a healthy well-balanced life that can ride out the emotional and physical challenges we come across in our work.

Take time out to get away from the farm completely, in an environment where you don't have to think about it for at least a week (but preferably two to three weeks).

After this it can be good to reflect on where you are at, and think about what you want to achieve for yourself as a family.

From this point reset some goals and from this, plan for the future - but more on that next year.

Don't make any big decisions when you are tired and stressed!

In the interim enjoy the summer and have a great Christmas - you have certainly earned it.
