A decent crowd of about 200 lined the banks at the Waikouaiti Rodeo to watch the cowboys and girls compete in the first competition of the 2019-20 season.

Rodeo president Logan Rowland said the weather had turned it on for the event.

One of the highlights of the day was the double set of wins Nicky Nichol and her daughter Ashleigh Jennings, of Alexandra, achieved during the second division and junior barrel races.

There were no serious injuries to the competitors or stock, Rowland said.
