The President of the United States is known to tweet when he wants to comment on something, but New Zealand's newly elected Paw Minister prefers to bark.
Rosco, a friendly Boxer dog who lives on a farmlet in Stratford, was recently voted in as "Paw Minister" in a Facebook competition run by Beneful dog food.
Rosco's campaign was led by the two humans he lives with, Donna Sayers and Tony Coxhead.
Donna says his election promises included clean waterways for summertime swims and subsidised tennis balls for all canines.
While Rosco himself lives a "pretty spoilt life," according to Donna, he made sure he included all canines in his campaign.
"While he has a bed in the house, he did campaign for insulation to be installed in all kennels for those dogs who have to sleep outside."
Rosco celebrated his win with a steak dinner, and this week is taking advice, and plenty of cuddles, from some his strongest supporters - Donna's grandchildren Rylee (10) and Jack (7) who are visiting for the holidays.
Donna says Rosco would like to thank all the people who voted for him in the election.
"It was purely down to number of votes, so his success is thanks to all the people who took the time to vote for him. There were lots of Stratford people voting for him and we really appreciate it."
Donna says while Rosco had some great campaign promises, she thinks his photos also helped.
"In his photos he looks strong and confident, which is what people want in a leader really."
With his campaign tagline of "Power to the Pooches" Rosco finished with a 78 vote lead against contender Levi.
"It was certainly a close race, but I think Rosco's promises found favour with the voters," says Donna.
Rosco will now feature on the Beneful NZ Facebook page throughout October, and receives a year's supply of Beneful as well as a new dog bed to sleep in.
