While Covid-19 posed a challenge for the 2020 FMG Junior Young Farmer of the Year, it did not stop two Southland boys from bringing home the regional title.
The Northern Southland College farmer lads, Ollie Trusler and Josh Bennett (both 17), received the news they had won the Otago-Southland regional final last week.
Ollie said he had entered with his "good mate" for four years (when the competition was called TeenAg), but it was the first time they had competed via video conference and online quizzes, due to the lockdown.
"We were asked questions about things like the gestation period of animals, general knowledge, agricultural topics," Ollie said.
"Usually, it's practical work and a quiz but obviously we couldn't do that this year."
