Aftershocks campaign
The Rural Women New Zealand Aftersocks campaign is up and running for the second time, building a community of fans and followers all wearing their support for the recent quake affected areas of New Zealand. To date more than 21,000 pairs of socks, pictured, have been sold to supporters worldwide since the initial launch in 2010 following the Christchurch earthquake. Proceeds from Aftersocks sales go to the RWNZ Adverse Events Relief Fund. Several grants have been distributed to individuals and groups in the areas surrounding Kaikōura. To buy a pair of Aftersocks for $17.39 go to www.ruralwomen.org.nz/shop.
Three scholarships awarded
Three outstanding students have been awarded FMG Agriculture Scholarships this year. Tom McKay from Alfredton, Shaun Rowe from Stratford and Peter O'Connor from Westport will each receive $5000 towards their tuition fees for each year of their agriculture degrees. FMG chief operations officer Conrad Wilkshire said that given the high calibre and impressive number of applicants this year, FMG took the step to offer three scholarships - up from the traditional two - and narrowing down the top three was no easy task. The FMG scholarship programme was set up in 2005 to help students pay tuition fees for agriculture studies at Massey, Lincoln or Waikato universities.
