Rotorua A&P Show set to be two fun-filled days

The Rotorua community can get a taste of the countryside with two fun-filled days coming up this weekend.

The Rotorua A&P Show is on tomorrow and Sunday from 8.30am to 5pm at the Agrodome.

Heather Brake, Rotorua Agricultural and Pastoral Association president, says there will be entertainment, animal displays including police dogs and sheep dog trials, mini horses, old farm machinery, food and trade sites, shearing and wool handling, and highland dancing.

The show will also include alpacas, goats, children's games, a colouring competition, a children's competition where they can win a bike.

It will also feature axeman competitions, with this year being the A&P Axeman's Club 50th anniversary.

For the anniversary, there is three days of competition with a New Zealand versus Australia International Teams Race.

This year the Rotorua A&P Show will have run for 109 years.

"It brings the town to the country and it's a great day out for all."

Heather says some of the events which draw many people are the axeman competitions, the shearing, the King and Queen of the Mountain race, the machinery, and the free entertainment for the children with lots of animals to see.

The show will go ahead rain or shine, so if it is bad weather people are encouraged to bring appropriate clothing.

Adults cost $10 and children 15 years and under are free.
