Hawke's Bay Sheep Dog Trial centre president Clark Chrystal has made it onto the leaderboard on the day of the North Island and New Zealand championships being held near Whangara, north of Gisborne.

Chrystal, of the Waikoau club north of Napier, has five heading dogs and huntaways in the championships and was listed in the top seven in the short head and yard class in the midday leaderboard call.

The board was based on the first 49 runs of a class which had a delayed start yesterday because of the wet conditions after heavy Sunday night and early Monday rain.

Former centre president Bob Bruce, with Cheat, and fellow Te Aute club member Chris Redmond, with Watch, remained on the long head leaderboard, after 71 runs, while Rocky Hawkins, also of the Te Aute club, remained on the zig zag hunt leaderboard, after 91 runs.
