Three helicopters and six fire engines battled a large vegetation fire at its peak in Broadlands, Bay of Plenty yesterday afternoon.
The blaze measured 3.5ha by t3.5ha, Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) shift manager Carren Larking said.
There were concerns that the fire was going to creep towards a forestry plantation as strong southwest winds took hold, however, it did not, she said.
FENZ were alerted to the emergency at 2.20pm.
By 4.10pm the helicopters had been stood down and one fire crew was left dampening hot spots.
