Today The Country tracked down the Deputy Prime Minister on his way to Ratana.
Winston Peters says attending the annual celebration of the birthday of Ratana Church founder Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana is "spiritual" and not "political pandering" as Jamie puts it.
The CPTPP is on the verge of being signedby 11 countries, a feat which Peters says is a great advantage to the New Zealand economy and "in a funny way" thanks to Donald Trump.
"It's forced people to actually be far more reasonable. Had the Americans gone along with this, then it would not have been as reasonable as they are being now...so in an unusual way, an ironic way - he has been seriously helpful to us."
