Winston Peters was on his way to speak in Cheviot when he noticed the Charles Upham monument in Amberley. This got him thinking about the First World War when it was said of British soldiers that they were "lions led by donkeys".
The New Zealand First leader told The Country's Jamie Mackay that the same can be said of Kiwi farmers today. The two biggest culprits according to Peters are Silver Fern Farms and the milk industry's infant formula business being "in the total control of the Chinese."
Winston blames the National Government for this "leadership of donkeys" and is not going to be persuaded otherwise by Mackay who says Fonterra is actually owned by New Zealand farmers...
