Fans of Bluff oysters will be concerned to hear about the latest outbreak of Bonamia disease which threatens the southern delicacy.
Bluff oysterman Willie Calder caught up with The Country's Jamie Mackay today and he is less than impressed with the Ministry for Primary Industries' (MPI's) response to the outbreak.
Calder says this discovery of Bonamia disease "is a massive threat, it could completely wipe us out" and is trying to work with MPI to contain it.
He's frustrated with the lack of response from the Ministry saying "if this was on a farm, if it was foot and mouth or something, there would be a total shut down".
Calder is calling for a total shut down on vessels travelling near the affected area, Big Glory Bay.
