The upcoming election has been causing tension for those in the rural sector and the idea that there is an urban/rural divide in New Zealand has been gaining traction in the media.
But is it all just talk?
On today's show The Country's Jamie Mackay asks "the voice of common sense" Steve Maharey if there is a rural/urban divide or is it actually an urban myth?
Maharey says "there certainly is a feeling these days...that folks in the rural sector feel a bit ignored," and he believes there is an urban/rural divide - but it is not as bad as people make out.
One way to remedy the situation is to shift the focus from agriculture to food, says Maharey, as that would resonate with urban people.
