Manawatu farmer and former locking partner of Sir Colin Meads, Sam Strahan took a break from fishing today to have a chat to The Country's Jamie Mackay and share some memories from his time with Pinetree.
Sir Colin Meads had been an All Black for 10 years when Sam Strahan made his test debut at Athletic Park in 1967. Strahan remembers "basically having to pinch myself" when he found himself packing down in the scrum with an "absolute legend of the game."
Sam talks to Jamie about what it was like to play rugby with Sir Colin, and reveals there was a lot of farming talk off the paddock "farming was very much a topic amongst the forwards ...not so much the backs."
Strahan finishes the interview with his favourite Pinetree story and gives Jamie his thoughts on the future of the wool industry.
