Today The Country takes a monthly look at the rural real estate market with the GM of PGG Wrightson Real Estate, Peter Newbold.
The dairy sector has ground to a halt which Newbold attributes to a "bit of a disconnect between where purchasers and vendors are at," among other external influences.
Newbold says returns are "pretty good" among all the sectors and believes dairy is just experiencing "one of those things that goes on in the real estate market - you have highs and lows."
One area that is performing well is horticulture says Newbold, with strong demand, high prices and good returns.
There is a shortage of good listings for sheep and beef sector at the moment and Newbold says there is strong interest in these properties when they do come on the market.
