It has been an excellent year for the red meat industry and "everybody seems to be making a bit of a margin," says Rob Hewett
The chairman of Silver Fern Farms spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay saying "you'd be hard pressed to find a grumpy farmer at the moment," when it comes to the meat industry.
"At the end of the day, farmers are being paid very well for meat right now," says Hewett, with customers demanding product being pulled "straight through." This means product is not coming from a freezer or store rooms but "pretty much off the chain, straight into a container and gone - and that's a quick way and an easy way to keep prices firm."
