Open Gates took place yesterday with 40 Fonterra farmers nationwide opening their gates to the rest of New Zealand to showcase some of the great things happening on their dairy farms.
Fonterra was hoping that Open Gates would be a good chance for city people to talk first hand to farmers, walk around their farm and see what they're doing to care for New Zealand's waterways.
Chanelle O'Sullivan went to one of the farms taking part in Open Gates and she spoke to The Country about her experience.
Chanelle says quite a few urbanites turned up to the farm she visited in Temuka and there was no negativity with everybody being very interested in farming processes.
Rowena Duncum has already had great feedback about Open Gates saying farmers are reporting it was a real eye-opener for townies with one man going around twice to get the full farming experience.
