Rabobank's animal proteins analyst Blake Holgate spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay today about the effect Mycoplasma bovis could have on beef farming as well as dairy.
It is understood that the latest outbreak of M. bovis has been on a drystock beef property in Hastings and even though the cattle disease isn't a food safety risk it can knock the confidence of buyers and traders of stock says Holgate.
It's not all bad news for beef farmers though and Blake explains why New Zealand beef prices are expected to hold firm in the face of expanding global production.
