Chilled meat can now be exported to China with a Memorandum of Cooperation signed yesterday, but is this good news for New Zealand?
Mike Petersen and Jeff Grant think so. The two former chairmen of Beef + Lamb New Zealand caught up with The Country's Jamie Mackay today to chew the fat over the deal.
The deal is on a six month trial but Petersen is confident it will be extended if we "do it right, do it properly and take it seriously."
Although former Prime Minister John Key set up the deal, Jamie wants to know how Bill English will go in dealings with the Chinese? Petersen says so far the "good Southland bloke" has is doing very well.
Jeff Grant says New Zealand is in safe hands with English who he reckons won't "do a Donald Trump on us".
