Nathan Guy defended MPI's handling of the mycoplasma bovis outbreak in South Canterbury and North Otago on The Country today.
The Minister for Primary Industries told host Jamie Mackay that M bovis testing, containment and eradication takes time and admits "we've still got quite a bit of work ahead of us."
Media attention has turned to beef farmers who have become the unwitting victims of the cattle disease.
For dairy farmers, it is business as usual as mycoplasma bovis does not affect milk. Neighbouring beef farmers are not so lucky and are unable to sell calves due to the cattle disease.
Jamie asks Minister Guy why these beef farmers aren't eligible for compensation and if this means they're not getting a fair deal.
