Jacinda Ardern has revealed that Labour would charge an unspecified royalty for commercial water and use the money to clean up rivers, lakes and streams.
The freshwater policy announcement has some farmers worried as it would affect those using water for irrigation.
Irrigation New Zealand chief executive Andrew Curtis spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay about the potential outcomes from Labour's proposal.
Although Labour's announcement is "nothing they haven't talked about before," Curtis says there are still some "real big questions," that the party needs to answer.
