Silver Fern Farms Chairman Rob Hewett spoke to The Country about how the Big Dry is starting to take its toll and affecting throughput.
Christmas last year was a busy time for meat processing says Hewett, "volumes were huge, everyone was offloading and looking to get out of lamb and ewes...we actually processed more sheep meat in December than we've ever done before".
Although throughput is not at the levels expected after such a big month in December, it's not all bad news and Rob talks to Jamie Mackay about the current great prices for mutton, lamb and venison (up 50%, 35% and 25% respectively).
