Mycoplasma bovis has some dairy farmers looking to become self-contained and to consider buying support blocks.
The GM of PGG Wrightson Real Estate Peter Newbold spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay, saying interest in support blocks is just starting to increase and it makes good sense after the discovery of the cattle disease in New Zealand.
Mackay asks if Mycoplasma bovis has put people off buying dairy farms. Newbold says it doesn't help but "it's just probably one of those factors at the moment," and says a it's a "combination of a lot of things," such as lending and values.
Also in today's interview - Newbold takes a look at the rural market where horticulture, and especially kiwifruit, is the star of the stable and checks out the latest PGG Wrightson Property of the Week - an impressive orchard in the Bay of Plenty.
