Today's "good bugger" is one of New Zealand's leading sheep breeders and winner of the 2012 Wellington region Ballance Farm Environment Awards, Derek Daniell.

Normally Derek can be found in the Wairarapa but today he spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay from the Iguazu Falls in Brazil.

Earlier this month Derek wrote an opinion piece called The Blame Game about the water quality debate which was very well received by the rural community.

Derek runs Wairere Station and keeps his operation environmentally friendly with 70 hectares of native bush and fenced off streams to name a couple of examples. He says the practice of looking after the environment "does enrich our lives."
