Moving Day is coming up soon and farmers will need to take extra precautions this year to avoid the risk of transferring Mycoplasma bovis as they move stock between farms.
DairyNZ Chief Executive Dr Tim Mackle caught up with The Country Early Edition's Rowena Duncum to discuss best practice for farmers dealing with Moving Day.
"The biggest risk of spread of M. bovis is through direct animal contact ... that is the key issue here, more so than whether or not a truck's been disinfected. I'm not saying those things aren't important but the bottom line is the biggest risk is direct animal contact so that's what we need to focus on the most."
Farmers who need more information on Mycoplasma bovis can check out DairyNZ's website here.
Also in today's interview: Dr Tim Mackle talks about the recent eradicate/management meeting in Parliament, if there are any developments in Mycoplasma bovis testing and what farmers could expect if the Government decides to manage the disease.
