Research has predicted that alternative protein products could represent a third of the global protein market by mid-century.
Or as food futurist Dr Rosie Bosworth puts it "the cultured, synthetic meat and protein train has left the station and at a speed that even we industry proponents weren't quite expecting."
Should New Zealand farmers be worried about the plant-based protein revolution or does it create new opportunities for our agricultural industry? Dr Bosworth spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay about how a move away from meat will change our farming and our food.
