The meat industry is facing challenging times but Damien O'Connor thinks there is no excuse for it.
Labour's Primary Industry Spokesman caught up with The Country's Jamie Mackay today to discuss the declining export returns for lamb and beef.
O'Connor can see no reason why meat is failing. Population growth and a wealthy Asian market could provide profit but Damien says the New Zealand meat industry is "incapable of going out and finding and exploiting those opportunities around the world".
He believes this "crazy situation" hits New Zealand's farmers the hardest. He hopes there will be a positive outlook for the meat industry in the future.
