Craig Wiggins is a staunch supporter of rodeo. Recently the sport has come under fire from animal rights activists after an electric prodder was used to agitate a calf. The Country's Jamie Mackay wants to know, is rodeo outmoded?
Wiggins says rodeo is one of the most monitored sports by the SPCA and NAWAC and has been for years. As a result of this their animal welfare code is "huge". Craig says that the rate of injury for horses is minimal. He has already commentated seven large events this year and not one of them has required a vet.
He does admit that things can go wrong like the recent cattle prodding incident but often these anomalies are blown out of proportion by the media.
Craig Wiggins has had to deal with a lot of nasty online comments recently and has been body-shamed by animal activists on Facebook. "Sticks and stones" says Wiggy, he's got bigger fish to fry.
