Today on The Country Jamie Mackay caught up with Sir John Key for his thoughts on the potential candidates for leader of the National Party, as well as a look back on the legacy of Bill English.
The news that Simon Bridges was successful as the leader of the National Party had not yet been announced at the time of this interview but Sir John said all were "great candidates" and he couldn't pick a clear winner - "it's a much tougher and tighter race than I thought."
Sir John has nothing but praise for his successor Bill English saying "he will go down in history as one of the great Ministers of Finance, deputy Prime Minister and I think a very fine Prime Minister."
Also in today's interview Sir John gives Jamie Mackay his thoughts on the state of the economy.
