A Kaikoura teenager will follow in his father's footsteps when he attends the FMG Young Farmer of the Year grand final in July.
Tomos Blunt (17) was a member of one of two teams from Christchurch's St Bede's College which qualified for the New Zealand Young Farmers' TeenAg national final at the Tasman region contest at Templeton on April 7. His father, Tony Blunt, a Kaikoura district councillor, was Young Farmer of the Year in 1991.
Mr Blunt hoped to get to Invercargill in July to watch his son and also attend the reunion to mark the 50th anniversary of the contest.
"We're pretty proud of his efforts and his younger brother William, who competed as well and just missed out on the last five for the run-off," Mr Blunt said.
"Now that Tomos is in there, we will do our best to get down there and attend the reunion as well."
