Less than a year after an $8.5 million upgrade, it is understood Canterbury Woolscours has made some workers redundant.
The news came just a day after 30 staff from Waimate's Debonaire Furniture lost their jobs, and two weeks after the staff of Timaru's Swanndri plant were told of its closure,
with the loss of 26 jobs.
While Canterbury Woolscours was not commenting about the decision, an affected worker claimed as many as 11 of the company's 45 employees had lost their jobs.
Michael Earl, a wool sorter, said he was "pretty gutted".
"I don't want to be seen as a moaner, but it's tough. I will have to go on to the dole now."
Canterbury Woolscours was formed to acquire and consolidate the Winchester scour previously owned by Ferrier Woolscours and the Washdyke scour formerly owned by Fairlie Wool Scour.
