An inventor has come up with a potato substance that can be used as a replacement for cheese or icecream

An Australian inventor who has created a potato product that can melt like cheese says it could shake up the food sector.

Andrew Dyhin from research company PotatoMagic has discovered a way to liquefy potatoes.

The product, called Chato, can be stored in blocks and used as a cheese or icecream replacement.

It could also be made into salt-free and fat-free snack foods .

The Country's Australian correspondent Chris Russell told host Jamie Mackay that Dyhin believes Chato could be useful for dropping into disaster zones, or for military use.

Dyhin told Food and Drink Business that If you put 3 per cent of the product in cold water it formed a milk alternative. It could also be used to make custard and dips.

Russell said he thought the invention could make Dyhin a millionaire.
