Great horsemanship was put to the test on Saturday as competition heated up at the 80th annual Waihi A&P Show.
Secretary and treasurer Marilyn Parker said agriculture numbers were down as there were no cattle or calves due to the mycoplasma bovis outbreak but the horses, ponies and their riders showed up in force to compete.
"There was a very high standard, which was great to see. The high side saddle costume class was full."
Another highlight was the young riders whose mothers led their horses around the ring.
"Some of the children were only four so it was great seeing them giving it a go and gaining confidence."
