Local service Health Reporoa has been growing steadily over the past 20 years, something which many community members have recently celebrated together.

The free nurse-led primary health service celebrated its 20th jubilee on Sunday with a luncheon, speeches, certificates and cake cutting.

Health Reporoa's official opening date was September 6 1996.

It held off the 20th celebrations until now so one of the original founding, and life, members would have returned from overseas and would be able to join in the celebration.

Health Reporoa manager Kerry Wilton said about 60 people attended the celebration and included a mix of people associated with the service.

She said they included foundation members, present and past committee and staff members, local elderly people, and people/businesses who had supported and given the service donations over the years.

Miss Wilton said they acknowledged Jane Maisey, "the first staff member employed in 1996, who had been here from the very beginning", and also staff member Margie Goldsworthy, who had been with the service for 10 years.

Miss Wilton said the current staff and committee members were all presented with engraved wine glasses in recognition of their current work.

She said there had been a number of highlights throughout the 20 years, including receiving a car for the service in 2014 and room renovations last year.

It was then able to employ a receptionist in September last year, becauseuntil then it operated with a drop-in service where people arrived and sat down, to be the next person seen by the nurse.

Now there was "a friendly face" to welcome people, she said.

Health Reporoa is a rural primary health care service funded by Lakes DHB and ACC Nursing Services Contract.

It includes home visits, school visits, and nurse-led drop-in clinics based in Reporoa, Kaingaroa, industry sites and Reporoa College.

The service covers the areas of Reporoa, Waikite Valley, Rerewhakaaitu and Kaingaroa.

It is run by a volunteer committee and currently has eight paid staff made up of five nurses, a community support worker in Kaingaroa, a receptionist and a manager.

Miss Wilton it they would like to thank St John for itssupport and sharing itsrooms, and the Reporoa Lions Club for itscontinued support.

"Thank you to all the people that have used the service over the last 20 years. Health Reporoa is pleased to have been able to make a difference in your healthcare."
