A group of around 40 people were on a foraging expedition in a Whanganui garden to find edible weeds.
"These plantain seed heads are good," said Julia Sich.
"They are wind pollinated and when the seeds fatten up like this, they become a good source of omega 3.
The foraging walk at the Heritage Food Crops Research Trust gardens in Springvale Rd, Whanganui on Sunday.
Weeds like dandelion, varieties of bugloss and wild borage were identified as edible weeds in the garden.
