Greenpeace has barricaded the main entrance of Fonterra's central Auckland corporate headquarters in a protest against the important of palm kernel

Police have detained two Greenpeace activists after a box was found inside Fonterra's Auckland headquarters.

A Greenpeace team staged a protest at the Princes Street building, objecting to the
dairy giant's importation of what it says is unsustainable palm kernel, used for animal feed.

The building had to be evacuated when a box was discovered in a lift.

But Greenpeace says it was only a speaker, and played a voice recording and the sound of chainsaws.

The organisation maintains the protest was peaceful.
