One of Kapiti's major summer attractions - the annual harvest festival at Te Horo's Lavender Creek Farm - will again draw visitors from home and overseas this weekend.
Overlooking Kapiti Island and the coastal seascape, they come to see harvesting start in the fields of lavender blue and watch the process from cutting to distillation into essential lavender oil.
Lavender has been produced on the farm at 123 Settlement Rd, Te Horo, for more than 22 years and the festival gets better every year.
Owner Susi White said the annual harvest is a chance for city folk to enjoy country life, and as well as walking through the lavender there are walkways to a vineyard olive groves, a stream, and a working essential oil distillery.
What happens to the oil and other byproducts can be seen in a shop on the property which offers gifts for sale.
