Warbirds over Wanaka has secured another vintage aeroplane for next year's international airshow.
New Zealand pilot Graeme Frew will be bringing his V12-powered Yak-3 aircraft ''Full Noise'' to the airshow and offer the public flights in the vintage aircraft.
Mr Frew and ''Full Noise'' competed in the National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nevada last month and became the first New Zealand team to reach the Gold Unlimited final there. It was the first time Mr Frew had competed in that airshow.
It took intense concentration and was tiring, but ''right up there in terms of the most satisfying things I had ever done in aviation''.
Mr Frew said ''I flew most of the time with both hands on the stick as the Yak, being small in size, is very susceptible to the wake turbulence of other aircraft.''
