Time is running out for CHB farmers to get a Farm Environment Management Plan (FEMP) in place by May.
Any property owner who owns 10 or more hectares in the Tukituki Catchment needs a FEMP under Tukituki Plan Change 6, which will be operative soon. Some people who own between4-10ha will also need one, unless they are considered a 'low intensity' operation.
Hawke's Bay Regional Council regulation group manager Liz Lambert says anyone who doesn't have a FEMP by the May 31 deadline will be required to get a resource consent from the regional council to continue farming.
Landowners need to get their Farm Plan now
"One of the conditions of the resource consent, if it is granted, will be to have a farm plan in place. So to avoid more onerous conditions, or legal action for enforcement, landowners need to get their farm plan now."
Hawke's Bay Regional Council is organising a series of workshops and information sessions for farmers in the Tukituki Catchment. These are being organised throughout March, April and May at HBRC's Waipawa office, 26 Ruataniwha St, Waipawa.

Information sessions will be held on March 15 and 27, April 15 and 26, May 8. Workshops: March 18, April 3, 15 and 28, May 15). Drop-in sessions (March 2, April 6, and May 4).
