Logan Dodd (9), of Tapui, says his pet sheep Blackie's "pretty good" behaviour and colouring sets her apart from other sheep.

That might have been why the VetLife judges at the North Otago A&P Association and VetLife Pet Day named her the Supreme Champion Animal in Oamaru on Sunday.

"She's nice and woolly and that, and the wool's nice," he said.

Her Border Leicester mother and Dorset Down father would have been proud.
Blackie was one of 40 pets — lambs, calves, rabbits and dogs — that went on parade at Oamaru's A&P showgrounds at the weekend.

North Otago A&P Association administrator Katrina Kelly said she was pleased with the turnout of 63 horses at the Have-a-Go Equestrian Day.

The day was a ''confidence builder'' for when the Plunket Electrical North Otago A&P Show rolled around in late February.
